Some teams reign supreme in this league, much like a coach and their respective college football programs do. What is your real-world team comp as it relates to today's college football landscape? Let's find out!
NOTES:
* Coach MUST be in league 3+ seasons. To see this criteria, visit the Career Stat page.
* Comps are using FBS/D1/major college football programs only.
* I tried to weigh overall success in this league such as wins, conference championships, 3rd place,
runner up and national championships when finding a team comp.
Brenton B. - Clemson (formerly Alabama 2021-2023)
- Brenton has two National Championships to his name. He's one of three league members with that number. He had a good run his first six years in the league but surprisingly hasn't made the playoffs since 2021! He's definitely been knocked off his pedestal, much like Clemson has been. Can he get back up and end his two year playoff drought and make a run at a third National Championship?
Justin E. - Alabama (formerly Clemson 2021-2023)
- Year after year, Justin's teams are competing for a National Championship in this league - much like the Alabama Crimson Tide. He's only missed the playoffs once (2022) in his six year's in the league and the following year (2023) he made the National Championship game again but lost to earn runner up status. Justin's teams are always competing for a National Championship and very rarely miss the playoff, but when they do, it's typically a one year hiatus while they reload.
Josh H. - Texas (formerly Ohio State 2021-2024)
- Out with the Ohio State team comp and in with Texas for Josh. Josh's teams always rack up a ton of points in the regular season and in stylish fashion too. Unfortunately, that doesn't carry over to the playoffs as Josh's squad typically fizzles out against tougher competition in the playoffs. This sounds like an exact description of how things go for Texas.
Jordan C. - Oklahoma
- Very similar team comp to Josh's squads. Lots of fireworks in the regular season that make things appear better then what they really are. Jordan's teams can't get over the hump to win it all when it matters most. He sports a 2-8 record in the playoffs. YIKES!
Mitch B. - Michigan State (formerly LSU in 2021, Texas in 2022)
- Mitch's squads are average at best, just like Michigan's little brother, Michigan State. Mitch had a breakout season in 2017 and Michigan State's last breakout season was...I don't know when. We're still waiting for the next breakout season for both but we may be waiting awhile.
Barry W. - Penn State (formerly Georgia in 2021)
- Comparable to Mitch's teams. One great year every now and again, just trying to get over the hump to be relevant. Have to knock off the big boys to make it happen but that's difficult to do in this league. Case in point, Barry's best seasons were in 2015 and 2019. For Penn State it was 2016 and 2019.
Jeremy H. - Ohio State (formerly Pitt in 2021, Georgia 2022-2024)
- Jeremy is the league's ONLY back to back National Champion. In accomplishing that feat, he's catapulted himself into ELITE status with Brenton and Justin from a prestige standpoint. Ohio State is the team comp here because the similarities between Jeremy's rise in this league and Ohio State's consistent success are eerily similar. While Ohio State never really seems to have a down year, they do happen on occasion and the same thing can be said about Jeremy's team's too.
Branden P. - Texas A&M (formerly Michigan 2021-2023)
- Branden's teams are built on the premise that every year will be "their year." Branden broke the playoff curse to finish runner up in 2022, but his 2023 season left a lot to be desired. Lots of similarities here between Branden's team's and the Texas A&M Aggies.
Jean B. - Notre Dame
- Jean's squads have tasted the playoffs more then others in this league. Unfortunately for Jean, her teams have had minuscule success in the playoffs, just like Notre Dame. But hey, at least they can say they got in.
Randy C. - Auburn
- Definitely the red-headed step child in the league. Aspires to be like Brenton/Clemson and Justin/Alabama but can't get out of their own way vs weaker opponents, which kills the vibe. Has made the playoff a handful of times and had moderate success but nothing to write home about.
Sage B. - South Carolina *ADDED in 2023*
- Sage finally broke through in year three of the league notching his first ever playoff appearance (2022) as well as racking up style points along the way. I'm not implying South Carolina will make the playoff in real life but the similarities between Sage's team's and South Carolina are too similar to ignore. Highly volatile with success when you least expect it.
Breton L. - Syracuse *ADDED in 2024*
- Breton has been .500 after his first three years in the league, not really exceeding in anything from a statistical standpoint. He's on par with his Syracuse Orange in real life. Maybe with the new coach in town, Breton will get a boost from a CFF perspective, too? Time will tell.
Jason B. - Vanderbilt *ADDED in 2024*
- Not a great start after three full years in the league. I'm classifying Jason as the Vanderbilt of the Central PA CFF League. Jason has a career record of 10-21. He has nowhere to go but up, right?
Brendan Y. - LSU *ADDED in 2025*
- As a Bama fan in real life, this team comp probably crushes Brendan's soul but it's the most applicable. Like Brendan's first couple year's in the league, LSU mostly keeps things afloat year after year and then out of the blue they have an elite season every so often. This trajectory is how things went down with Brendan. He muddled through the league his first two years but got over the hump in a big way in year three and won the National Championship as the #7 seed in the CFFP.
Phil W. - Georgia *ADDED in 2025*
- Phil is three years in and he already claims a National Championship and a Runner Up to his name. Georgia is still one of the elite team's in CFB despite not winning a third Natty in a row. Phil is in ELITE territory with his hot start in the league. Let's see if he can keep the eliteness going, much like Georgia.
